Intent
The document outlines the process for the submission and selection of projects facilitated by the Physical Therapy Knowledge Brokers (PT KBs).
Background
The PT KB position is jointly funded, by the Department of Physical Therapy at The University of British Columbia, the Physiotherapy Association of British Columbia and Arthritis Research Canada. The position is shared by Alison Hoens and Jason Craig.
Approximately every 2nd year, a call for proposals is announced welcoming submissions for new projects. See physicaltherapy.med.ubc.ca/physical-therapy-knowledge-broker for examples of previous projects.
Project ideas relevant to any setting (e.g. public practice, private practice, community) and area of practice (e.g. neurology, orthopaedics, geriatrics) are welcomed.
Process
- The call for new projects opens Monday, March 11th, 2024.
- All submissions must include the following information:
- The current gap/need/issue related to physical therapy practice (cross-disciplinary projects are also welcomed) e.g. Clinicians need evidence-based guidance on the selection of interventions for best practices in treatment for people living with a progressive neuromuscular disease
Please include bullet points highlighting the importance (i.e. prevalence and consequences) of the gap/need/issue.
- The desired products/output(s). These should be achievable within a 2-year time frame. e.g. toolkit.
- The names, positions/roles & contact details of at least 2 individuals who will commit to working with a team to undertake and complete the project.
- Funds &/or resources that could be provided/leveraged to support the project.
- The proposed project should provide the opportunity for potential contributions from various stakeholder groups (e.g. patients, researchers, clinicians, students, decision-makers).
- The submission deadline is Friday, April 12th.
- All submissions should be sent to Alison Hoens at alison.hoens@ubc.ca. The PT KB Steering Committee will adjudicate the submissions to select which project(s) will proceed. The number of submissions that will be selected will be dependent upon the projected timelines, required resources and PT KB workload capacity.
- All submission authors will be notified of the result of the selection process by Friday, May 17th.
