The UBC Department of Physical Therapy welcomes Dr. Jordan Guenette appointed Assistant Professor

Dr. Guenette received his Bachelors, Masters and PhD from UBC Human Kinetics.  His postdoctoral training was funded through NSERC and Canadian Thoracic Society/Canadian Lung Association fellowships at the Respiratory Investigation Unit at Queen’s University and Kingston General Hospital. Dr. Guenette is a cardio-respiratory exercise physiologist and his research objectives are to determine the respiratory, cardiovascular, muscular, and neuro-physiological factors that limit exercise tolerance in health and chronic lung disease and to determine how these limitations can be modulated by non-pharmacological interventions such as endurance training, strength training, and targeted respiratory muscle training.  This work spans the spectrum of health and fitness and includes elite athletes, healthy aging, smokers at risk for develop lung disease and patients suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Dr. Guenette is currently recruiting students interested in pursuing MSc and PhD degrees through the UBC Rehabilitation Sciences Graduate Program.  Trainees can expect to work in a highly collaborative environment with other faculty members in Physical Therapy, the James Hogg Research Centre, the School of Kinesiology and various departments in the Faculty of Medicine at UBC. .  Interested candidates should email the following information to Jordan.Guenette@hli.ubc.ca

Dr. Guenette is a member of the Canadian and American Thoracic Societies as well as the American Physiological Society, Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology and the American College of Sports Medicine.  He is a member of the Scientific committee for the CIHR Institute of Gender and Health 2012 Conference, Advancing Excellence in Gender, Sex and Health Research which will be held in Montréal, Canada on October 2012.
