Name and Title(s):
Tess Chen
Registered Physical Therapist, Clinical Instructor
Where do you work?
Vancouver, BC
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Seeing both patients and students build confidence in their abilities. Seeing patients do things they no longer thought they were able to do. Seeing patients have fun with their rehab.
Why does physiotherapy matter?
We not only prescribe movement as medicine, we also act as advocates, educators and partners in the patient’s healthcare journey. It is such a privilege to act in this role!
What drew you to physical therapy?
The breadth of physio- being able to work with patients of all ages, backgrounds and diagnoses. There is so much opportunity for continuous learning and exploration.
What is one thing we might be surprised to learn about you?
I had initially wanted to be a midwife and fell into physiotherapy. I’m glad I did because I don’t think I could handle being on call – I love sleep.
