Dr Ardern’s research spans designing and leading randomised controlled trials, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, developing and disseminating clinical practice guidelines in various musculoskeletal pain conditions, international consensus statements, longitudinal data analysis and advanced statistics, and open science practice. Dr Ardern led the design and development work for an eHealth intervention to help people get back to physical activity after serious knee injury, and led the PERSiST guidance on implementing the PRISMA 2020 items in systematic reviews in sports & exercise medicine, musculoskeletal rehabilitation and sports science. Dr Ardern has a published research output of > 100 research papers that cover musculoskeletal rehabilitation and orthopaedics, research-on-research (research policy) and patient partnership. Dr Ardern has had senior editorial roles with leading sports medicine and rehabilitation journals since 2015, and is the current editor-in-chief (since 2018) for the Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy (JOSPT) and JOSPT Open.
