What inspired you to pursue your program?
The MPT program at UBC has been a dream of mine ever since volunteering and working in physical rehabilitation. I chose physiotherapy because it is an active, hands-on career where I can teach others, and learn something new every day. The most rewarding aspect of the profession I look forward to is building a rapport with a variety of people and teaching them how to take an active role in improving their health.
How has your experience in the MPT-North program been so far?
My experience so far in the MPT-North program has been incredible. For the first time ever I experienced moving to a new city, seeing moose and deer, and riding on logging roads. Being a physical therapy student is a lot of hard work but it is a gratifying experience, and the support we have for one another in the cohort and on-campus is amazing. I’ve had so much fun in the program so far, and look forward to more activities to come!
Where are you hoping the MPT-North program takes you?
Being part of the Northern cohort, I look forward to working in clinical placements in areas I’ve never stepped foot in before and getting to know the people and the communities across BC. I can’t wait to discover more sights over the course of my program and hope to gain more experience in running a successful rehabilitation clinic as well.
What is the best piece of advice you have received?
Don’t be afraid of change and getting out of your comfort zone. Whether it be trying something new, meeting new people, or moving to the North to pursue a career you love, getting out of your comfort zone can provide a wonderful opportunity to learn from others and about yourself.
What was your first job?
My first job was as a piano tutor. I was 11-years old and taught my neighbour who was elderly how to play piano after coming home from out-of-school care and made $5 for every 45-minute session.
Favourite hobby or recreational activity?
My favourite activity to do is powerlifting at the gym. It is an activity where I can track my progress, makes me feel strong, and has boosted my confidence in everyday life. I also find it helpful whenever I feel stressed, as it has kept me in a good headspace.
