It’s back to school: meet some of our MPT students – Part 2

As part of the Faculty of Medicine’s back-to-school series, we sat down with some of our MPT students — Sophia Chadwick, Holly Parent, and Jasmine Mousavi — to talk about their interest in pursuing a career in physical therapy, what excites them about the upcoming year, and where they see themselves in five years from now.

Holly Parent – Class of 2016

Holly ParentHometown: Victoria, B.C.

What sparked your interest in pursuing a career in physical therapy? Why PT?

I chose to pursue a career in physical therapy due to my history.  I have struggled for over ten years with injuries, and have been unable to compete to my optimal potential as a result. My goal is be able to provide the care necessary for others, so they are not hindered in their sport/lives as I have been.

What excites you the most about the coming year?

I have achieved two degrees and taken numerous classes over the past few years, however they have yet to be directly applicable to my career aspirations.  I am excited to take courses that will directly correlate to my career, as well as apply those skills in my upcoming clinical placements.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

In five years, I hope to be a practicing physical therapist.  I intend to move to southern California after my graduation from UBC MPT and intend to pursue my doctorate in PT.  In five years I hope to have completed my doctorate and be expanding my practice to include other modalities such as Active Release Technique and Grastin.

If you had to choose between the following options, what would be your preference?

Bones or muscles? Muscles
Sweet or sour? Sweet
PC or Mac? Mac
Stay in or go out? Stay in
iPhone or iPod? iPod
Dinosaurs or robots? Dinosaurs
1960s or 1980s? 1980s
