Karen van der Hoop and Karol Elliott, both Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Medicine ’79 graduates are providing support to students through the Jane Hudson Scholarship (PT) and Margaret Hood Scholarships (OT), as well as the Rehabilitation Sciences Alumni Bursary.

The Margaret R. Hood scholarship has been endowed by alumni, friends and The British Columbia Society of Occupational Therapists in honour of Margaret R. Hood, a founding member of the School of Rehabilitation Sciences. The award is offered to a graduate student in Occupational Therapy and is made on the recommendation of the School in consultation with the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

The  Jane Hudson scholarship has been endowed by alumni and friends in honour of W. Jane Hudson, a founding member of the School of Rehabilitation Sciences. The award is offered to a graduate student in Physical Therapy and is made on the recommendation of the School in consultation with the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

The UBC Rehabilitation Sciences Alumni Bursary was established in 1982 by the Rehabilitation Student Council led by Nancy Cho (President).  Prior to 1982, all rehabilitation science students were provided a government stipend for their work in the hospitals while on their placements. This helped students with the costs of their education.  This government stipend program was discontinued for allied health professions in 1982, and the bursary was founded in its place in order to assist students in financial need. Nancy is again providing leadership toward raising $30,000 towards this endowed bursary, which will be awarded to two students (One Masters of Physical Therapy and one Masters Occupational Therapy) each year. Please make a gift to help us reach our goal of $30,000.
