Sports, adolescents and concussions

Naznin Virji-Babul and Lara Boyd along with Post-doctoral fellow Michael Borich are among the first to show that there are changes in brain white matter in concussed adolescents and these changes persist up to 2 months after injury. There was also a strong relationship between these changes and the commonly used concussion assessment tool, the Sport Concussion Assessment Tool 2 (SCAT2).  This finding is highlighted in the spring 2013 UBC Medicine Magazine.  You can read the scholarly article in the British Journal of Sports Medicine
