Alison Hoens, May 2012

May 24, 2012

In recognition of the outstanding academic achievements that have resulted in her promotion to Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia, Alison will take part in the Academic Gown ceremony May 3, 2012.

The future of the Department relies on the talents, energy, enthusiasm and creativity of our faculty and staff, students, residents and fellows. Alison has been a strong contributor in all of these areas in the past few years.

Alison Hoens holds two professional academic roles:  (1) Physical Therapy Knowledge Broker within the Department of Physical Therapy, Faculty of Medicine and (2) Research, Education and Practice Coordinator for Physiotherapy at Providence Health Care. She received her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from UBC and postgraduate degrees (Master of Science, Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Physiotherapy) from Curtin University in Perth Australia. Alison has undertaken clinical, teaching and research activities in physical therapy and interdisciplinary spheres provincially, nationally and internationally. At Providence Health Care she is responsible for research, education and evidence-based practice support for over 120 Physiotherapists and Rehabilitation Assistants across the spectrum of acute, rehabilitation and residential care settings. In her role as Knowledge Broker she facilitates partnerships between researchers, clinicians and decision makers for rehabilitation relevant research and the development of resources and tools to support evidence-informed practice. In addition to pursuing her passion for knowledge translation, Alison continues to expand her expertise in the safe and effective prescription and application of electrophysical agents (light, sound and electrical energies) for tissue healing.
