Jodi Edwards, PhD Candidate supervised by Lara Boyd received a 2012 Brain Star Award from the CIHR Institute of Neurosciences, Mental Health and Addiction (INMHA). This award is designed to recognize the excellence of research done in Canada by students and trainees in all fields and disciplines covered by INMHA. Jodi was chosen as a Brain Star Awardee for her article that appeared in Stroke2011 Mar;42(3):728-33, Changes in Intracortical Excitability After Transient Ischemic Attach Are Associated with ABCD2 Score. This was the first study to demonstrate that there were lasting central nervous system effects after Transient Ischemic Attacks. The study team found that altered intracortical inhibition and facilitation in the affected hemisphere was present after TIA. These changes occurred on average 2 weeks after clinical signs of TIA resolved and in the absence of structural lesions. The study also linked changes in intracortical excitability with ABCD2 score.
