Continuing Professional Development Coordinator

April 17, 2015

Department of Physical Therapy, University of British Columbia

Continuing Professional Development Coordinator

Position Available

The Department of Physical Therapy is seeking to appoint a Clinical Faculty / Clinical Administrator to undertake the activities of a Physical Therapy Continuing Professional Development Coordinator.  The Coordinator will provide leadership for a provincial continuing professional development (CPD) program for physical therapists across British Columbia. This positon will work closely with the PT CPD consortium comprising the UBC Department of Physical Therapy, the UBC Division of Continuing Professional Development (UBC CPD) in the Faculty of Medicine, the College of Physical Therapists of BC (CPTBC), and the Physiotherapy Association of BC (PABC), to implement a model of CPD that benefits PTs across BC and the stakeholder organizations. The Coordinator’s major objective is to collaborate with CPD providers in responding to CPD needs, leverage existing structures and mechanisms in the province to increase access to education, foster a culture of life-long learning, promote continuing competence, and identify interprofessional healthcare CPD education opportunities where appropriate. This role has arisen as a result of a provincial needs assessment.

The Coordinator will undertake this work for 2 days per week and will be compensated at $32,000 per annum, for up to 3 years, with annual review. While based in Vancouver at the UBC CPD unit, the incumbent will work closely with the Department of Physical Therapy at Point Grey campus and on occasion will be required to travel within British Columbia. The work of the coordinator is being funded by the UBC Northern and Rural Cohort of the MPT Program and thus it must facilitate and meet the CPD needs of clinicians in northern and rural areas to build capacity for quality clinical education throughout the province.

All applicants must review the full and detailed PT CPD Position Description.

In addition to being able to demonstrate abilities to meet the required skills in the full Positon Description, the successful candidate must also have completed a degree in physical therapy. A Masters degree would be an asset. PABC membership is preferred. Demonstrated leadership experience and facilitation skills across constituencies are essential.

The positon is open to qualified applicants who hold currently a Clinical Faculty appointment at UBC and also to applicants who do not hold a current Clinical Faculty positon but are eligible to do so.  Completion of the appointment process will mean that the incumbent will hold both an unpaid Clinical Faculty appointment and a concurrent Clinical Administrator appointment which will encompass the CPD role.
