Applicants who applied previously to the MPT program are required to resubmit all documentation, including reference letters.

All applicants must complete and submit the MPT Supplemental Application Form via the online application portal.

  • List all the courses that you wish to be used towards the MPT program prerequisites requirements. Report final grades as they appear on your official transcript.
  • Complete a 200 word written response to the question posed by the MPT program.
  • Complete the Complementary Information section if you would like to provide additional information for the Admissions Committee’s consideration.

  • Applicants to the Master of Physical Therapy-North cohort offered at UNBC in Prince George will need to submit the MPT-N Application Form in addition to the MPT Supplemental Application Form.

Required Documents

Applicants must submit scanned copies of official transcripts issued by all post-secondary institutions attended, except UBC. The Admissions Office recognizes that this requires opening of official transcript envelopes for scanning and submission purposes.

  • Printouts or screenshots of unofficial results or transcripts will not be accepted.
  • Applicants currently completing the last year of their undergraduate degree must submit the most recent transcript that contains all final grades for the September – December semester.

If you are admitted to the MPT program, you will be asked to send all official transcripts directly to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.

Applicants must submit the contact information for three referees. We highly encourage applicants to notify their referees as early as possible.

Two academic references

Step 1 Notify your referees.
Step 2 Fill in the required fields in the online application for your references.
Step 3 Submit your application by the application deadline.
Step 4 Once your application has been submitted, referees will be prompted to provide their e-references* through the online application portal where they can also upload an optional letter of recommendation.
Step 5 E-references are automatically added to your online application once they have been submitted by your referee.

*If an academic referee is unable to provide an electronic reference, they may complete the Academic Reference Form and post it directly to the Department of Physical Therapy.

One practical/professional experience reference

Step 1 Notify your referees and send them the Practical/Professional Experience Referee Form.*
Step 2 Fill in the required fields in the online application for your references.
Step 3 Submit your application by the application deadline.
Step 4 Once your application has been submitted, referees are prompted to provide the Practical/Professional Experience Referee Form** through the online application portal where they can also upload an optional letter of recommendation.
Step 5 Your reference will be instructed via our online application module to submit the required Practical/Professional Experience Referee Form directly to your online application.




*It is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the form to the individual with whom you undertook your practical experience and who is appropriate to provide a report on your 70 hours of volunteer/paid work practical experience working with individuals with physical, emotional or cognitive disabilities.

**If a practical/ professional referee is unable to provide an electronic reference, they may post a paper copy of the completed Practical/Professional Experience Referee Form directly to the Department of Physical Therapy in a sealed and signed envelope.

  • Applicants applying as BC Residents are required to provide a scanned copy of both the front and back of a valid BC Care Card/BC Services Card.  Residents of the Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut must provide a scanned copy of both the front and back of a valid Territorial Health Care Card.  The Admissions Office reserves the right to contact applicants for further information or documentation to clarify residency status.

  • Applicants using high-school, AP, or IB courses to meet prerequisite requirements must submit scanned copies of official high-school, AP and IB transcripts.
  • Print-outs or screenshots of unofficial results or transcripts will not be accepted.
  • The Admissions Office cannot access high-school, AP or IB transcripts that may have previously been sent to UBC’s Enrolment Services or UBC Undergraduate Admissions. All high-school, AP or IB transcripts must be resubmitted. Information about requesting an IB transcript can be found on the IB website. Information about requesting an AP transcript can be found on the AP website on the AP Score Reporting Services page.

If English was not the primary language of instruction of your undergraduate degree, you must complete one of the following English competency tests and achieve the minimum score, as noted below, within 24 months of the application deadline. Results of your test must be sent directly from the testing institution, to the University of British Columbia, so as to be submitted by the application deadline. Acceptable minimum scores for entry to the MPT program:

  • TOEFL: 100 (iBT)
  • MELAB: overall 85
  • IELTS (Academic): overall 7.5, with a minimum score of 7.0 in each component
  • CAEL: overall 80
  • PTE (Academic): overall 70
  • CELPIP (Academic): 4L

  • If application documents are issued under a different name, applicants must provide proof of a name change, such as a Birth or Marriage Certificate.

  • Applicants applying as Permanent Residents are required to submit a copy of both the front and back of their Permanent Resident card.


Admission to the UBC Master of Physical Therapy Program is highly competitive.  Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee an interview or offer of admission.  Please thoroughly review the information on this website prior to contacting program staff.
