Dr. Lara Boyd at TEDx Vancouver 2015

TEDx Vancouver,  held November 14, 2015 at Rogers Arena with a theme of “Identity” featured Dr. Lara Boyd presenting her view on what determines your individuality, your brain. The brain’s plasticity in combination with your experiences determine who you are, and with that you can become who you want to be.

Lara-Boyd-by-Martin-Dee-Professor, Lara Boyd is the Canada Research Chair in Neurobiology of Motor Learning, a Michael Smith Foundation for Health Career Investigator, and a Peter Wall Scholar. She directs the Brain Behaviour Lab at the University of British Columbia, which performs research employing multimodal imaging and is designed to advance theoretical conceptualizations of how brain function relates to behaviour during learning.

Dr. Boyd’s academic training is as a neuroscientist but the questions studied by her lab are framed by her clinical training as a physical therapist. Her research program is focused on understanding neuroplastic change in the brain with the goal of refining rehabilitation interventions for people with stroke. Her efforts are leading to the development of novel, and more effective, therapeutics for individuals with brain damage.
