Heart and Stroke Foundation, Focus on Stroke awards go to two Department trainees

Neuro stream coordinator and PhD student, Tara Klassen was awarded a Heart and Stroke Foundation Focus on Stroke Doctoral award for Determining optimal post-stroke exercise (DOSE). She is working under the supervision of Janice Eng and was earlier awarded a CIHR doctoral award for this work.

Also winning an award in the Focus on Stroke competition is incoming post-doctoral fellow, Kate Hayward.  Kate is currently a Senior Research Officer in the Division of Physiotherapy, School of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences  at The University of Queensland.  She will be carrying out the work for her study, Characterisation of the structural and functional capacity to recovery after severe stroke, under the supervision of Lara Boyd.

The emphasis of the Focus on Stroke awards is on building capacity in  clinical, health services/policy, and/or population health research and supporting research training of health professionals (e.g. nurses, occupational therapists, pharmacists, physiotherapists, speech therapists).
